Bean, book, cake, coffee

My Bean has been dropping her afternoon naps.  I usually give my editing a fighting chance by insisting she take some “quite time” but today I just couldn’t resist a chance to sit with her and her stories.  If I give her a choice of activities it will almost always be baking.  She sat on the counter and talked a mile a minute for thirty minutes straight while we stirred and scraped.  I love every second of her chatter and her observations.  When the cake was finished we sat on the porch in the rain and ate it.

When we came inside she snuck over and kissed Zoë’s eyelids and said, “I know we’re not supposed to wake her up . . . but she looks so cute and I want to kiss her so much and I know she’ll like cake and I just can’t stop myself.”  I know exactly how she feels.

On the cake – it’s the lemon yogurt cake from A Homemade Life. I love the blog and loved the book, but this is the first time I’ve ever actually made anything from it . . .  Might have to try again soon.

so sweet. baking with my children is my fantasy (have to have the kids first). Sounds like you had a perfect day, or at least a perfect few hours. xo
