The Weekly Read: My Father’s Dragon

We’re already on our third reading of Three Tales of My Father’s Dragon and it’s one of the best early chapter books we’ve come across. There are three books in the series: My Father’s Dragon,  Elmer and the Dragon, and The Dragons of Blueland, but I advise you to save yourself the trouble of three and look for the first book I mentioned, which includes them all.  There are just enough (charming) illustrations that even my barely three year old has no problem staying engaged.  My four year old loves the animals and the adventure (it’s adventure without being scary – a bit tough to come by).

Our librarian recommended this book to us when she heard Eva asking for longer stories and I’m so glad she did.  I’ve seen it on reading lists for older children, but it was pretty perfect for the three to five year old demographic.  I love illustrated children’s books and am feeling a little sad that my eldest is so eager to move on, but excited by all the new reading material it opens up!  How about you?  Any wonderful young reader chapter books to share?
